1 Year Anniversary for Ray of Hope Community Centre

On November 1, 2011 the Ray of Hope Community Centre (ROHCC) celebrated one complete year of ministry in the new-to-us 659 King St. East building!  And over the course of the past twelve months, the ROHCC has:

  • Gone from having 3,000 square feet of useable space to 14,000;
  • Added 3 more staff positions (1 full-time Chaplain & 2 part-time Shift Supervisors);
  • Approximately tripled the number of individual volunteers;
  • Recruited 36 new volunteer groups with a total 74 active groups;
  • Enlisted the help of 7 specific work teams;
  • Served 59,627 meals;
  • Distributed 10,870 food-hampers;
  • Received 1516 bags of donated clothes;
  • Gave out 20,527 articles of clothing;
  • Provided 210 showers;
  • Facilitated 700 loads of laundry;
  • Began 3 new ministry partnerships (Celebrate Recovery, Alpha Canada, & Hep. C Waterloo Region Support Group);
  • Hosted 13 special events;
  • Given countless tours to family, friends, staff, students, potential volunteers, monthly partners, and church & community leaders;
  • Averaged 50 people attending the weekly Chapel services;
  • Increased the operating budget by 63%;
  • Piloted “The Coldest Night of the Year” walk-a-thon in February (www.brrrr.org);
  • Started administrative office renovations (Dec. 20th is move in day!).

One of the greatest things that the ROHCC has experienced over the past year is an increase in the prayers & support of individuals, families, churches, and community groups.  These wonderful people have dedicated their time, energy and finances to helping the ROHCC fulfill the mission of “demonstrating the love of Christ with those who are disadvantaged, marginalized, or troubled”.  As a result the ROHCC has been able to partner with them to help fulfill their personal or corporate missions to be a blessing to all those in need.
