Taking Alpha to the Homeless and the Hurting
"Alpha Downtown" is an initiative of Ray of Hope Community Centre in Kitchener where the course is being offered to the homeless population they serve. Not everyone who attends Ray of Hope is homeless; some have a place to call home. For those who do, it is often just a room in a rooming house. All are struggling financially and many have serious mental health and addiction issues. “We have come home with very full hearts tonight,” says one of the Alpha leaders after the first session. “There were nine guests and we were very moved by how they opened up and how deeply personal were the things they shared. They are all saying they will definitely be back next week!”
