Employment is a gateway to confidence, independence, and a sense of self-worth. Challenges in finding a job can derail young lives before they even get started. Through employment education and on-the-job training, Ray of Hope helps young people enter the workforce with the skills they need to succeed.
“Discovering your true skills and abilities and knowing where you shine is the greatest feeling— especially when you doubt yourself.
The Youth Employment Program teaches practical skills and positive work habits to young people who have had difficulty finding or maintaining full-time employment.
The 6-month program has three parts:
- Employable Skills Workshops (6 weeks): Guided by Ray of Hope’s Employment Counsellors, youth earn practical certifications including First Aid Level C with AED, Safe Food Handling, Smart Serve & Health and Safety Training with WHMIS, as well as learning valuable life skills, health & nutrition skills, goal setting, resumé writing, and interview skills.
- Internal Work Experience (8 weeks): Participants gain valuable on-the-job work experience at one of our Morning Glory Café and Catering locations.
- External Work Experience (10 weeks): Participants hone their skills at an external work placement that aligns with their abilities and interests.

2021 Program Start Dates: July 5, August 30, October 25, Dec 20.
Participants stay connected with the program for one year after graduating so they can continue to receive support and maintain the relationships they’ve built.
“It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It sounds corny but I have learned so many things and made a lot of memories. I would highly recommend it to anyone considering applying to the program.”
